Justin Duty drives to MARS podium at Red Hill, John 4th at Sunset Speedway Park

Both halves of Double Duty Motorsports were in action over the weekend, with Justin Duty taking on a pair of Midwest Auto Racing Series (MARS) Late Model Championship events and father John racing in Oregon.

On Friday, Justin Duty traveled to the 3/8-mile Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois, for the $5,000-to-win Gary Gerstner Memorial. He unloaded his Don Frank Floors No. 15 Super Late Model among 25 MARS competitors. Duty qualified with the sixth-quickest time in his group and finished as runner-up in his heat race, putting him sixth on the grid to start the 25-lap feature. He was running in second with two laps remaining when a lapper crashed in front of him, leaving Duty nowhere to go. His car suffered heavy damage and he recorded a 13th-place result with a DNF.

After an intense thrash by the Double Duty Motorsports team and friends, Duty raced as part of an 18-car MARS field at Red Hill Raceway in Sumner, Illinois, on Saturday. He opened the Red Hill Rumble by turning in a seventh-place qualifying effort in his group around the 4/10-mile track. He went on to finish third in his heat and began the 30-lap, $5,000-to-win A-Main from the fifth spot. He drove forward two positions in the main event and came home third behind Ryan Unzicker and Jason Feger. Bob Gardner and Shannon Babb finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Duty is currently fourth in the MARS Late Model championship standings.

Also on Saturday, John Duty piloted his No. 5 Super Late Model at the quarter-mile Sunset Speedway Park in Banks, Oregon. He qualified third and also finished third in his heat race. He began the 40-lap Late Model Showdown feature from the sixth position and registered a fourth-place result behind Collen Winebarger, Bricen James and Cory Yeack. Craig Hanson completed the top five.
