7th-place result for Justin Duty in Illinois Valley Showdown finale
Justin Duty wrapped up a busy month of May with the MARS Late Model Championship on Friday and Saturday in the Illinois Valley Showdown at LaSalle Speedway. He drove his Don Frank Floors No. 15 Super Late Model to a top-10 result in Saturday’s main event.
On Friday, 31 MARS Late Models descended on the quarter-mile oval in LaSalle, Illinois, for the Twisted Twin 25s, each paying $5,000 to win. Duty finished seventh in his heat race and eighth in the B-Main, starting him 21st in the first 25-lap feature. He advanced five spots to finish 16th, and under the event’s format, started from that position in the second 25-lap A-Main. He continued to climb through the field, registering a 12th-place result in the second race.
Saturday saw Duty turn in a strong performance in a 32-car MARS Late Model field at LaSalle. He raced from sixth to second in his heat and began the $25,000-to-win feature from fifth on the grid. He maintained a spot inside the top 10 for the entirety of the 75-lapper and finished in the 7th spot.
Duty is currently sixth in MARS Late Model Championship points, just six markers out of the top five.
