Justin Duty grabs pair of top-10 MARS finishes on Memorial Day weekend
From Friday through Sunday, Justin Duty took on a trio of Midwest Auto Racing Series (MARS) Late Model Championship shows in Illinois and registered a best finish of fourth.
The MARS weekend opened on Friday with a 31-car program at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois, where a $5,000 winner’s share was up for grabs. Duty drove his First Class Septic No. 15 Super Late Model to victory in his heat race on the 3/8-mile oval, positioning him third on the grid to start the main event. He finished fourth in the 30-lap race behind Ashton Winger, Jake Little and Tony Jackson Jr. Fifth place went to Guy Taylor.
On Saturday, Duty was among 50 MARS Late Model competitors at Fairbury (Illinois) Speedway for the $5,000-to-win FALS Triple Down Shootout. After finishing third in his heat on the quarter-mile oval, Duty started 17th in the 40-lap A-Main and recorded a 14th-place result.
The MARS weekend slate wrapped up Sunday at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Illinois, with the Gary Cook Jr. Memorial. In the event, which brought 33 cars to the 3/8-mile speed plant, Duty claimed the fourth spot in his heat race. He started 14th in the $5,000-to-win feature and climbed five positions in the 40-lapper to finish ninth.
Duty is sixth in MARS Late Model Championship points with the Memorial Day weekend shows in the books.
