MARS eastern Iowa swing yields top-10 finish for Justin Duty
Double Duty Motorsports driver Justin Duty raced at a pair of Hawkeye State tracks over the weekend with the Midwest Auto Racing Series (MARS) Late Model Championship. In the three days leading up to Easter, he made three feature events and scored a best finish of eighth.
On Thursday, the MARS Late Models made their inaugural visit to the quarter-mile Cedar County Raceway in Tipton, Iowa, for the Hawkeye Land 40. Forty-three cars were entered in the $5,000-to-win program. Duty steered his Roberts Bee Company No. 15 Super Late Model to a fourth-place result in his heat race, then started 16th and finished 15th in the 40-lap main event.
Next, the MARS Late Model Championship schedule shifted south to the 3/8-mile 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, for two shows.
On Friday, Duty competed in a 39-car field during the Prelude to the Slocum 50. After narrowly missing a transfer spot in his heat, he won his B-Main to begin the $5,000-to-win feature from the 17th position. He advanced nine spots in the 40-lap race to come home eighth.
The next night, the MARS Late Models returned to 34 Raceway, where a 38-car field was on hand for the $10,555-to-win Slocum 50. Duty finished third in his heat race, putting him 10th on the grid to begin the 50-lap finale. He finished in 15th position.
After the eastern Iowa events, Duty is 13th in the MARS Late Model Championship standings.
