Justin Duty opens Late Model season with MARS Nippy 50
Coming off his rookie of the year season in the MARS Late Model Championship, Justin Duty began his second full-time campaign with the series in its 2025 lid-lifter at Maquoketa (Iowa) Speedway on Friday and Saturday.
The weekend's Nippy 50 event marked the first-ever stop for the MARS Late Models at the quarter-mile Hawkeye State speed plant and brought 44 cars to the track each day.
On Friday, Duty drove his Don Frank Floors No. 15 Super Late Model from fifth to second in his heat race, putting him sixth on the grid to start the 40-lap, $10,000-to-win feature. He came home in the 17th position.
The next night, a $15,000 winner's share was up for grabs in the event finale. Duty finished sixth in his heat and was scored ninth in his B-Main after a DNF. However, he still earned a place in the 50-lap feature, starting 21st. He was forced to retire early, but picked up three positions and claimed the 18th spot in the final rundown.
After the Nippy 50 weekend, Duty is 18th in MARS Late Model Championship points.
