Justin Duty wraps up MARS Labor Day swing with 6th-place result at Spoon River
Over Labor Day weekend, the Midwest Auto Racing Series (MARS) Late Model championship concluded its August slate with a trip through Illinois. Justin Duty continued his full-time campaign at each event and maintained the fifth spot in the series point standings.
On Friday, Duty and his Don Frank Floors No. 15 Super Late Model team were among 36 MARS Late Model entries at Farmer City Raceway for the Chuckwagon Food Service 40. Duty just missed transferring into the $5,000-to-win feature through his heat race on the quarter-mile track, but went on to win his B-Main from the pole. He started 18th and finished 12th in the 40-lap main event.
Thirty-five MARS Late Models took on the quarter-mile Fairbury Speedway on Saturday in the $10,000-to-win Illinois Dirt Shootout. After a sixth-to-fourth run in his heat, Duty rolled off 16th to begin the 50-lap A-Main. He picked up two spots to take 14th in the finishing order.
Duty turned in his best night of the weekend on Sunday in the 35th annual Plowboy Nationals at Lewistown, Illinois’ Spoon River Speedway. With 24 MARS Late Models on hand at the 3/8-mile oval, Duty finished fifth in one of three heat races. He began the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win feature from 13th on the grid and climbed to a sixth-place result.
